Banned Books

We are continuing Banned Books Week (ended 2 October) with our display case in the Library. These and many other books are available for sale in the Friends Bookstore at unbeatable prices. Now is a good time to catch up on that reading list - Hemingway was banned! (those of you currently reading The Paris Wife); FScott Fitzgerald (calling all MN authors), JK Rowling (Harry Potter!) and SO many others.

The display illustrates banned books over several years, but the Library also has a number of books with the reasons that books and authors have been banned or challenged. This is not a new phenomenon, but there are more and more challenges every year.

We have a great team of book lovers who handle special books, and create amazing displays. This month they have highlighted a very eclectic collection of tiny books! On Many many different subjects - surely there is one you just can't live without!

The Friends Bookstore has had great new arrivals in books (fiction and non-fiction), craft pamphlets and cds/vhs tapes! Now is a good time to stock up on reading material, especially as it is too early to get out into the yard!



We also have an excellent selection of new magazines all priced at 50cents - unbeatable!

Unusual and Special Books

March is National Women's History Month and the Unusual and Special Book Collectors have put together a lovely display in their Case in the Library entrance.  All books are ready for purchase, don't hesitate to ask! There are some fascinating biographies available.

Well, anytime is a good time to read a classic, or catch up on literature, or just a great read.

What a fabulous display we have in the Friends' Bookstore!  It will be changing daily with new selections as they are selling like hotcakes!

Literary Bookstore Display

There is another great display in the Friends' Bookstore which highlights all kinds of literature - we have a GREAT selection for you to choose from. Indeed, some of them you might have always been meaning to get to, others could be 'hmmm this looks interesting' and of course all of them have unbelievable prices to entice you to buy several, many, more, as well as hardcover, paperback, tradesize, fiction, nonfiction, comics, humor, childrens, ETC. Stop in soon, as always the selection changes daily. We have just ALPHABETIZED some of the paperbacks too with the intent to do ALL of them this month. That will make finding the book you are looking for so much easier.

New arrivals for Spring: Fiction, Non-fiction

Donations have continued to arrive and both the Fiction and Non-fiction new arrivals carts in the Friends' Bookstore are full. Check out the great selection! (I'll bet the new John Sandford has sold by this time tomorrow!)




We have a great new display in the Friends' Bookstore created for Spring by Sue McMillan.


Did you know that by clicking on the photograph you can read all the titles? I tried this out and was delighted to more accurately share with you what is now in the Friends' Bookstore! I will take photos often so if you can't be there, check it out here.

We have had a display on Home Improvements for a week now (noting that there was the Home Improvements Event at the Mayo Civic Center last weekend). The books and magazines have been selling like hotcakes! We are very fortunate to have some creative volunteers who make our wonderful displays, normally based on donated books or library events. We change our displays twice a month, to refresh the books, replace bookstock and welcome customers.
Soon we will have a lovely display for St Patrick's day, with green books, books (fiction, poetry and nonfiction) on Ireland, the Celts, and great irish literature. And spring can't be far behind!
